Air connections

As mentioned before on the page on organizing a trip to Tanzania, the best way to arrive at this destination is definitely to use air connections. From Italy, in particular from big cities such as Rome and Milan, flights depart to connect the main airports. But how long do the flights last? What are the best companies? How much are the tickets? We’re going to tell you everything in this post.

Documents needed to fly to Tanzania

Before developing the topic of air connections, we would like to remind you that a visa and a passport are both required for Tanzania. The visa needs to be requested in advance and it can be for tourists, business or other purposes. The one for tourists is the simplest to obtain and with a very basic procedure: it’s enough to fill in the request and send the required documents to obtain it at least 14 days in advance. Or if you are short of time, you can do the necessary documentation directly at the airport at the arrival, and in both cases the cos is around 50 USD.

We also would like to remind you that Tanzania, being outside of Europe, requires a valid passport in order to travel. Checking the expiration date in advance it’s essential to avoid problems while traveling.

How to save on the price of the plane ticket

If you want to organize a trip to Tanzania, you will have noticed that one of the most important payments that you need to make is the flight one. Plane tickets can weigh on the budget of the holiday, but you should also know that by booking in advance that you can get important discounts.

By booking in advance and showing flexibility in choosing dates, you can find the best offers. However, pay attention to the period! The high season, which corresponds to the month of August and the one that goes from Christmas to Epiphany, often have higher prices.

The best solution is to use websites such as SkyScanner that show, even with flexibility of dates, the most convenient offers for a specific destination, offering you the option to choose both direct and stopover flights.

From Italy to Tanzania: airports

If you are wondering from where you can leave for Tanzania, we remind you that everyday you can find connections from Milan and Rome. But also other cities such as: Bologna, Venice, Catania, Florence and others too, which, however, offer less frequent flights. On the other hand, the airports in Tanzania, are distributed throughout the entire state and have reference points based in the area. Don’t look only at the prices, but also at where to land and then save on internal transports. For example, if you want to visit the Kilimanjaro area, Arusha, Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Natron, the best solution is the Kilimanjaro airport, which lends itself to covering the connections to Northern Tanzania.

The same stopover is perfect even for those who have Zanzibar as their destination. In order to save money, some people choose to travel to Nairobi and, from there, take a connection to Arusha by land. But be careful, because in this case it is necessary to undergo a vaccination for yellow fever.

How long do the Italy – Tanzania flights last?

The duration of the flights clearly depends on the city of departure. Starting from Rome, in order to reach Tanzania, 7 hours and 50 minutes are needed with direct flights. It can take up to 20 hours when there are two stopovers, but the average time is about 11 hours with a stopover that, normally, is in Amsterdam, Nairobi, Paris or Cairo. The times get longer leaving from Milan: the direct flight Malpensa-Tanzania lasts about 11 hours and 30 minutes, while it goes up to 14 hours if there’s a stopover.

Airline Companies

What are the airline companies that connect Tanzania and Italy? It depends on the city, but we can tell you that in general you can find flights with: Qatar Airways, Emirates, KLM, Kenya Airways, Air France, Blue Panorama, Lufthansa and British Airways.

How much do flights from Italy to Tanzania cost?

The costs obviously vary from several factors: we can tell you that by organizing yourself in advance, paying attention to offers and evaluating options with websites like Skyscanner, Volagratis or Edreams, you can find round trip flights for less than 380 euros.
